Residents of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and the surrounding South Florida areas—
A major change is coming to how you can reach emergency services.
Starting June 1, 2025, Text-to-911 will officially launch in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties,
allowing residents to send a text message to 911 during emergencies when calling isn’t safe or possible.
This critical update was recently explained by a local officer in this Instagram reel:
Why Text-to-911 Matters in South Florida
From the high-rise condos in Brickell to the quiet suburbs of Pembroke Pines, emergencies happen everywhere.
And in certain situations—like a home invasion in Kendall, a domestic violence incident in Miramar, or a medical emergency in Hialeah—
making a phone call could put someone at even greater risk.
With the new Text-to-911 service, you now have a silent, secure way to request help across:
Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Hialeah, Hollywood, Doral, Pembroke Pines, Coral Gables, North Miami, Homestead and beyond.

How to Use Text-to-911 in Miami-Dade or Broward
1. Open your text messaging app.
2. Enter 911 in the “To” field.
3. Type your exact location and a brief description of the emergency.
4. Send the message and keep your phone nearby for a reply.
Example:
“Someone broke in. I’m hiding in the bathroom. 456 NW 8th St, Apt 1, Miami, FL.”
⚠️ Avoid using emojis, slang, abbreviations, or sending photos. Be clear and direct.
Key Reminders for South Florida Residents
– Calling 911 is still the fastest option when it’s safe to do so.
– Texting 911 is for emergencies only, not general inquiries.
– Be as specific as possible with your address or location, especially if you’re in a large building or mobile.
